Anine Barnard

Anine was born in the Free State. She obtained her professional training at the University of the Orange Free State, where she completed her Fine Arts Degree, specializing in Graphic Art.

She paricipated in various local and international exhibitions. (Belgium, USA, Canada, France, Germany, Switzerland and England).

She specializes in portrait and figure studies and has been practising from her art studio at home. Working with mixed media, she portrays her immediate surroundings and situations from everyday life. Her themes are mainly women together with animals, which depicts her love for nature and simplicity. Minute details are a characteristic of her etchings. She uses vibrant colours in her pastels.

“Art is about expressing one’s feelings and thoughts,” she says. The source of her inspiration is the known, familiar world around her. Her work has a dream-like, naive quality, evoking feelings of reminiscence or promise.
